Meet Sarah

Hi, I’m Sarah Gerhardt - ERYT-500

I’ve been immersed in the world of yoga for fifteen years and teaching for the last decade. I studied for three intensive years at the renowned Yoga Studies Program at Naropa University in Boulder, CO. Following my training I continued to study Sanskrit and Yoga philosophy with Sreedevi Bringi and spent months in residency at Zen Buddhist monasteries. More recently I’ve been immersed in the practice and study of yin yoga and yoga nidra.

Over the last decade I’ve taught yoga all over the US at studios, teacher trainings, colleges, corporate and private events, retreats, and one-on-one.

My classes are known for their creative seamless sequences, clear instructions, care for my students, and creating a container that leaves one in a state of peace and stillness. I support others in their own journey of embracing happiness in each moment and deepening their relationship with their bodies and minds.

My teaching is influenced by my explorations in the natural world along with eleven years practicing Zen Buddhism in addition to Yoga. My passion is to empower others to find inner peace and physical strength through yoga, meditation, and nature-based practices.

I was born in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York, where I’ve recently returned with my loving husband to build an ecological farm and straw bale house. I’m a long-time organic vegetable farmer, prolific knitter of clothing, maker of herbal preparations, baker with maple sweeteners, and lover of all things outdoors.

I envision a world in which we live in harmony with nature’s rhythms and in turn deepen our relationship with ourselves.

My Story

I came into my spiritual practice out of necessity to find meaning and peace from the difficulties I’d experienced.

As a child of divorced parents, a father who was imprisoned, and a sibling with a mental illness, growing up had many challenges. In addition, by the time I was twenty one I’ve had a dozen loved ones pass away. As an adult I struggled and recovered from various health issues and a period of intense anxiety and panic attacks, all while the death of friends and family continued, including the eventual loss of my brother.

I’ve been left to question what all the pain and suffering I’ve experienced was for and what I’m supposed to do with the residue.

Over the last fifteen years of studying Yoga, Buddhist philosophy, herbal medicine, and ecological design, I used what I learned to transform my suffering into joy. During the darkest moments, my connections to nature, yoga, and meditation practice have kept me steady.

Pain is inevitable, but it doesn’t mean we have to suffer constantly. My hope is to support you on and off the mat in your own journey of healing and living from your unique essence and place of joy.
